A new beginning

On a September morning I had breakfast with my friend Laura Sechi in my favorite Café in town: the historical “Svizzero”. After having sipped a tasty coffee, we went to the nearby via Sassari where Laura and her business partner Rita are now setting up their restaurant.

Laura and Rita, both with very successful careers, have decided to change their job, embracing a new adventure. Great, isn’t it?! Particularly now that their kids have grown up. Rita always wanted to start her own business; Laura, a great cook and food blogger thanks to her well known “Cooking Laura” blog, had a great dream. She wanted to open her restaurant to do what she likes most: cooking.

A new beginning – Detail

A few weeks later, Rita and Laura asked me to make a piece of art for their restaurant. Filled with happiness, I started thinking, designing and sketching an artwork that could fit the place, the spirit of the restaurant and its owners.

In a rainy afternoon, I invited them in my studio along with the designer that worked at the refurbishment of the place and I showed them the sketches of my proposal. The following day I was commissioned to create the artwork :).

Art in Porto Cervo Marina

Last weekend I went to Porto Cervo Marina to the vernissage of a collective exhibition in which I participated with a selection of six sculptures.

Left: Quiete and Silenzio. Right: Abbraccio and Untitled

I am very happy of having been involved in this exhibition in my beloved Gallura which, together with the whole of Sardinia, has always been a huge source of inspiration. The sky, the colours, the Mediterranean scrub vegetation, the rocks sculpted by the wind and the sea, the silences and the perfumes of my motherland which have inspired many sculptures I exposed. And seeing them in that context made me joyful because it seemed like as if they were at home.

In the small square of Porto Cervo Marina, other than the “Semi Verticali” made by Pinuccio Sciola, there are sculptures made by Alessandro Lobino, Chelita Riojas Zuckermann, Szymon Oltarzewsky and my “Maestrale” made of fiberglass. Close by, Immobilsarda’s offices host some artworks by Eliane Aerts, Massimo Golfieri, Adolfo Macciocco, Raphael Mazzucco, Jean Pierre Ramos and Licia Sanna, but also some sculptures made by me and other sculptors who exhibit outside in the little square. A woman’s world

By paolafalconi   /     Apr 25, 2015  /     My art

My friends,

Today is one of those luminous Spring days. The sun is shining in a bright blue sky, its light catching on every flower, on every blade of grass, on every granite rock – brilliant, magic.
