Arte Povera in New York

I have been to New York last week with my husband for a short trip. Being an artists who lives in an island like Sardinia, it is sometimes necessary to take a plane and visit a big city to fill up the mind with new creative stimuli to take back home.

It has been an incredible and very intense trip, also because I have travelled alone with my husband for the first time after twenty years, without my children. A weird sensation, almost bewilderment, but after a while I was able to focus at the 100% on the reason of my trip: to immerse myself in modern and contemporary art.

At the MoMa I went to an exhibition of one of my favourite artists, Louise Burgeois, you must visit it! And finally at The Neue Galerie I have also seen  in great detail one of the greatest masterpieces of the 1900thThe woman in Gold, a Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer. The sensations I felt while calmly observing these artworks for as much time as necessary are really indescribable.

Anyways, I had been very positively surprised by the growing attention paid in New York for the Italian Arte Povera. Recently, maybe because it is the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of the movement curated by Germano Celant, initiatives on the Arte Povera are flourishing. The biggest galleries in Manhattan are launching exhibitions with artworks of Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero Boetti, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Luciano Fabro, Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Giulio Paolini, Pino Pascali, Giuseppe Penone, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Gilberto Zorio and others.

My love New York

By paolafalconi   /     Jun 21, 2015  /     Inspiring artists, Inspiring moments

This month I’ve done a trip to New York. I love New York. It’s a place where you find everything, for better or for worst.

I think it is so full of energy because there are millions of people that breath, think, create, in one word: live.

New York at nigh

I live in a very quiet place in the countryside but I must admit to myself that in this period I’ve a growing need to visit places where there is social and cultural ferment, and New York is one of this places of course.

Feeling of freedom

By paolafalconi   /     Dec 04, 2014  /     Inspiring artists, My art

Some weeks ago my husband Mario was in New York City. He has been invited to see the recently opened Henri Matisse exhibit “The Cut Outs” at the MoMA. He came back home enthusiastic about the exhibit and he brought me the catalogue that I started to read and watch in my studio during my working sessions.

What I liked most was the feeling of freedom and creativity that Matisse transmitted with such artworks that mostly represent human figures and natural figures “cut out” from hand colored paper by himself and “pinned” in the walls of his rooms to revive the natural environments that he was not able to enjoy anymore due to his physical constraints.

He was able with his art to overcome the limits of the physical infirmity!

If you are in NYC or are about to go there don’t miss this extraordinary exhibit to load yourself of beauty and liberty, an explosive combination.

While I was reading the Henri Matisse catalogue, this week I’ve finished my third portrait. In this period I’m very attracted by figurative art and I think I’ll keep on doing figurative art for a while.
