Arte Povera in New York

I have been to New York last week with my husband for a short trip. Being an artists who lives in an island like Sardinia, it is sometimes necessary to take a plane and visit a big city to fill up the mind with new creative stimuli to take back home.

It has been an incredible and very intense trip, also because I have travelled alone with my husband for the first time after twenty years, without my children. A weird sensation, almost bewilderment, but after a while I was able to focus at the 100% on the reason of my trip: to immerse myself in modern and contemporary art.

At the MoMa I went to an exhibition of one of my favourite artists, Louise Burgeois, you must visit it! And finally at The Neue Galerie I have also seen  in great detail one of the greatest masterpieces of the 1900thThe woman in Gold, a Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer. The sensations I felt while calmly observing these artworks for as much time as necessary are really indescribable.

Anyways, I had been very positively surprised by the growing attention paid in New York for the Italian Arte Povera. Recently, maybe because it is the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of the movement curated by Germano Celant, initiatives on the Arte Povera are flourishing. The biggest galleries in Manhattan are launching exhibitions with artworks of Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero Boetti, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Luciano Fabro, Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Giulio Paolini, Pino Pascali, Giuseppe Penone, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Gilberto Zorio and others.

An Intense Summer

When it comes to art, July and August have been very intense months for me.

I worked for the whole winter together with my curator Katy Carta on the realization of my monograph ‘’IN // Inspired by Nature’’ and, when it was finally ready, I considered important presenting it to my friends, acquaintances and art collectors in my city: Cagliari.

The presentation of the monograph happened in mid-July in ‘The AB Factory’, along with the exposition of seven paintings and four sculptures, all representative of my artistic journey. (more…)

IN // Inspired by Nature

We finally made it! The curator Katy Carta and I have been collaborating for a year for the realisation of my monograph “IN // Inspired by Nature”. I liked the idea of fixing on paper my artistic experience.

After the Academy of Arts, I followed the classic path of all the young artists: frequenting galleries and cultural associations, participating in collective exhibitions and art competitions. But, while I was starting my career I was living: I got married and with my husband I raised a family of four kids.

As many working mums I chose to sacrifice my career in order to give quality time to my family but I never abandoned my artistic activity. I just slowed it down, I didn’t exhibit anymore but I never regretted it at all.

Besides that, since a few years, with my kids being more independent I gradually increased the amount of time spent working and, thanks to this blog, I started talking about me and my art. For me writing is close to a psychological introspection. It has helped and stimulated me to work always more, up to the point of dedicating myself completely to art again – first by painting, then by exhibiting and finally by sculpting.

Peaceful fishes

In this painting I wanted to express the feeling of tranquility and well-being that arouse while observing the fishes swimming in the water.

I’m amazed by their movements and I love the silence surrounding them.

In questo quadro ho voluto esprimere la sensazione di tranquillità e pace che mi provocano i pesci quando li guardo nuotare nell’acqua.

Mi incantano coi loro movimenti armoniosi e mi piace il silenzio che li avvolge.

Finding Joy in Every Day Things

By paolafalconi   /     Jan 15, 2017  /     Inspiring moments, My art

Testo in italiano alla fine della pagina

Among the little great joys of life, I want to share with you one specific moment of silence in my studio in the middle of the winter, with the company of my little dog and a fireplace.

Rain, white sky, green leaves of the myrtle tree, olive tree, arbutus tree and the sleeping grass are outside my studio

Inside my studio there are colors on the table and ideas that come to life on a piece of paper, with a clear sensation that I’m leaving a special but affordable moment: finding joy in the ordinary.
